Visits for Artistic Creation in Mexico

The Embassy of Mexico calls for candidacies from East African plastic artists wishing to create an artistic work in Mexico under the guidance of an expert in the field, national or foreign, residing in Mexico.
The duration of the scholarship ranges from one to six months, during which the selected artist will be able to enrich its work through constant exchanges with Mexican artists. The artistic visit will have to be made between January and December, 2008. The scholarship includes a monthly allowance equal to 5 D.F. minimum wages (540 USD approx); international air travel at the beginning and end of the grant; national travel Mexico City-worksite and worksite-Mexico City at the beginning and end of the grant; and medical insurance, effective as of the third month of the grant.

For pre-selection purposes, the Embassy of Mexico requests the following material:

-- Letter indicating the reasons for wishing to execute the artistic creation project in Mexico.

-- Submit candidature on Application Form B, included in this Call.

-- Submit a letter of recommendation from a prominent artist of the applicant’s native country referencing the merits of the candidate.

-- Portfolio with photographs of three works and several work sketches showing the candidate’s experience in the area for which he/she is requesting the artistic visit and indicating dates of execution.

The Embassy of Mexico will remain involved in assisting the candidates throughout the process of gaining acceptance in the Mexican receiving institutions. Acceptance will necessarily be obtained  prior to the delivery of the scholarship.

Although the knowledge of the Spanish language is not an absolute requirement, the successful candidate commits to undergo a Spanish course prior to her or his departure. The Embassy of Mexico reserves its right to request additional information form the candidates as well as to refuse any application. The final decision regarding scholarship awards rests with the General Directorate for Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and shall not be open to appeal. The decision will be announced in December 2007.
